The Doctors’ Association UK has teamed up with Doctors in Distress to launch a series of webinars supporting the mental wellbeing of ITU doctors and nurses during the pandemic.

Our first session was presented by expert in Space Medicine, Professor Kevin Fong, who is also a HEMS Consultant and a national advisor to NHS England on major incidents.

The DAUK chairman Dr Rinesh Parmar, said his members had reported that many dying patients had been deprived of access to care they would have normally received at the beginning of the pandemic.

“In reality, the late lockdown allowed far more infections to spread across the country than the NHS had the capacity to cope with … It left dedicated NHS staff in the invidious position of having to tell many critically unwell patients who needed life-saving treatment that they would not receive that treatment. Those staff will be mentally scarred for a long time as a result. They dedicate their lives to caring for people and never expected to be left in such a situation.”
