This number has likely risen since then. Thousands more have been&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2022\/01\/03\/thousands-of-nhs-staff-absent-as-hospitals-declare-critical-incident-15856359\/\" target=\"_blank\">absent from work for prolonged periods of time<\/a>&nbsp;due to long Covid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The impacts on our patients are clear:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2021\/11\/11\/ambulance-response-times-highest-since-records-began-just-before-winter-crisis-15582693\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ambulance waits are at record highs<\/a>, GP services are stretched, while the Royal College of Emergency has described how\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2021\/11\/17\/calls-for-urgent-probe-after-thousands-die-from-non-covid-conditions-15614618\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">extended A&amp;E wait times are translating directly into excess deaths<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Read the full piece<a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2022\/08\/02\/nhs-staff-deserve-more-than-the-woeful-pay-rise-weve-been-offered-17111012\/\"> here<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NHS staff have received a below-inflation pay rise.
