{"id":1178,"date":"2023-11-13T16:11:19","date_gmt":"2023-11-13T16:11:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/new-health-secretary-urged-to-prioritise-healthcare-staff-concerns\/"},"modified":"2023-11-13T16:11:19","modified_gmt":"2023-11-13T16:11:19","slug":"new-health-secretary-urged-to-prioritise-healthcare-staff-concerns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/new-health-secretary-urged-to-prioritise-healthcare-staff-concerns\/","title":{"rendered":"New Health Secretary urged to prioritise healthcare staff concerns"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dauk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Victoria-Atkins-Health-Secretary-13-11-23-1024x683.jpeg\" alt=\"Head and shoulders photo of new Health Secretary Victoria Atkins\" class=\"wp-image-9130\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Victoria Atkins has been appointed as is the new Health Secretary<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Doctors Association UK (DAUK) has urged the new Health Secretary to work with healthcare professionals on the critical issues they\u2019re facing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DAUK welcomed Victoria Atkins MP to her new role and called on her to engage more effectively and meaningfully with frontline staff in the NHS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ms Atkins replaces Steve Barclay MP, who has moved to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ms Helen Fernandes, co-chair of DAUK, said: \u201cOur primary aim is to ensure the NHS receives the support it needs to continue providing excellent care to patients across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDuring his tenure, Steve Barclay failed to address several critical issues raised by healthcare professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur concerns regarding pay, working conditions, and the regulation and scope of roles such as physician associates and anaesthesia associates were not adequately met.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese issues are paramount in ensuring the quality and safety of patient care, as well as maintaining the morale and retention of healthcare staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe call on Victoria Atkins to prioritise these concerns and work collaboratively with the DAUK and other healthcare bodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur focus remains steadfast on protecting the NHS and ensuring it remains a world-leading healthcare service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe stand ready to engage in productive dialogue and action to achieve these goals.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Doctors Association UK (DAUK) has urged the new Health Secretary to work with healthcare professionals on the critical issues they\u2019re facing.
