{"id":1217,"date":"2024-02-27T10:41:02","date_gmt":"2024-02-27T10:41:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/join-us-for-overseas-nhs-workers-day\/"},"modified":"2024-02-27T10:41:02","modified_gmt":"2024-02-27T10:41:02","slug":"join-us-for-overseas-nhs-workers-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/join-us-for-overseas-nhs-workers-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Join us for Overseas NHS Workers Day"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dauk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/ONHSWD-v2-1-1024x734.png\" alt=\"Friday 1 March\nOverseas NHS Workers Day\n#OverseasNHSWorkersDay \" class=\"wp-image-9439\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Join the Doctors\u2019 Association UK (DAUK) for the fourth annual Overseas NHS Workers Day this Friday 1 March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dauk.org\/overseas-nhs-workers-day-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Overseas NHS Workers Day<\/a>&nbsp;is a special opportunity to celebrate all of the wonderful contributions of our international staff to the health of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/commonslibrary.parliament.uk\/research-briefings\/cbp-7783\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Recent data shows around 265,000 out of 1.5 million NHS staff in England reported a non-British nationality<\/a>, which is around 19 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They work tirelessly every day to support the NHS and to provide outstanding care for patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But they also face difficulties and challenges while helping to save lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr Pushpo Babul Hossain, DAUK&#8217;s IMG lead and founder of Overseas NHS Workers Day, said: \u201cDAUK is proud to be celebrating the diversity, strength and skill that our international staff bring to the NHS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOverseas NHS Workers Day is a chance to give back, to recognise the incredible contributions they make, and also to raise awareness of some of the issues faced by international staff.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While&nbsp;Overseas NHS Workers Day is a chance to celebrate the value that all overseas workers bring to the NHS,&nbsp;year DAUK is highlighting the contributions of international medical graduate (IMG) GPs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It follows the release of the book \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwp.co.uk\/book\/why-cant-i-see-my-gp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Why Can\u2019t I See My GP?<\/a>\u2019 by former DAUK co-chair Ellen Welch, which shines a light on the crisis facing general practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will be sharing some of the stories of IMG GPs and celebrating their successes, as well as those of overseas workers across the NHS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And we are inviting NHS trusts, health organisations, patients and the general public to show how much we value our overseas workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How to get involved:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Post a message on social media using the hashtags #OverseasNHSWorkersDay #ONHS2024<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you are an overseas NHS worker, share your story with us<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>NHS trusts and organisations might want to share stories from their overseas workers or a supportive message from a senior leader<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wear blue and green, the colours of the earth and of Overseas NHS Workers Day<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Send a colleague a message or a card to let them know you appreciate them<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Download posters from our&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dauk.org\/overseas-nhs-workers-day-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Overseas NHS Workers Day<\/a>&nbsp;page and display them<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Display flags of different countries<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And if you are posting pictures and videos on social media, please remember to tag us and use the hashtags #OverseasNHSWorkersDay #ONHS2024\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>@theDA_UK and @WorkersNHS on X\/Twitter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>@thedoctorsassociationuk on Instagram<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>@TheDoctorsAssociationUK on Facebook<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Join the Doctors\u2019 Association UK (DAUK) for the fourth annual Overseas NHS Workers Day this Friday 1 March.
