{"id":1223,"date":"2024-03-15T15:47:56","date_gmt":"2024-03-15T15:47:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/gp-committee-concerned-at-health-tech-bosss-reported-comments\/"},"modified":"2024-03-15T15:47:56","modified_gmt":"2024-03-15T15:47:56","slug":"gp-committee-concerned-at-health-tech-bosss-reported-comments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/gp-committee-concerned-at-health-tech-bosss-reported-comments\/","title":{"rendered":"GP committee concerned at health tech boss&#8217;s reported remarks"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Doctors\u2019 Association UK (DAUK) GP committee says alleged remarks by Frank Hester call into question the leadership of health tech company the Phoenix Partnership (TPP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Steve Taylor, DAUK GP committee spokesperson, said the committee had significant concerns over the reported comments about Diane Abbott MP, Britain\u2019s longest-serving black MP, which have been widely condemned as racist and misogynist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr Taylor said: \u201cDoctors\u2019 Association UK GP committee has significant concerns over the recent comments reportedly made by Frank Hester, owner of TPP, one of the major suppliers of GP IT systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe GP workforce is a diverse community of people and these alleged comments are deeply upsetting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt is the responsibility of all those working in and alongside the NHS, in whatever capacity, to treat all patients equally, irrespective of their race, colour, or gender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s saddening to think that one of the NHS\u2019s contractors could allegedly express such views.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe agree with other GP bodies that it calls into question the leadership of TPP.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Hester is founder and chief executive of TPP, which has received hundreds of millions of pounds in contracts from the NHS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Contracts include running patient consultation computer systems used by more than 2,500 GP practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He has donated more than \u00a310m to the Conservatives, which Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is under pressure to pay back following Mr Hester\u2019s comments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He has apologised on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HesterObe\/status\/1767248542651781271\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the social media platform X<\/a>, formerly Twitter, for making \u2018rude\u2019 comments about Ms Abbott but said it \u2018had nothing to do with her gender nor colour of skin\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ms Abbott has described the reported comments as \u2018worrying\u2019.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Doctors\u2019 Association UK (DAUK) GP committee says alleged remarks by Frank Hester call into question the leadership of health tech company the Phoenix Partnership&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[65,59,58],"tags":[38,301,132,641],"class_list":["post-1223","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-dauk-news","category-general-practice","category-the-nhs","tag-dauk","tag-dauks-gp-committee","tag-nhs","tag-steve-taylor"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1223","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=1223"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1223\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1223"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1223"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=1223"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
