DAUK is thrilled to announce Imran Khan KC as a speaker at our inaugural Jenny Vaughan Memorial Conference.\r\n\r\nThe day-long FREE conference is in memory of our founder and former chair, Dr Jenny Vaughan OBE. It will feature panels, discussions, and presentations on the causes she was passionate about.\r\n\r\nMr Khan, who has extensive experience and expertise in institutional injustice, will speak on the experience of injustice.\r\n\r\nFounding partner at Imran Khan and Partners, Mr Khan was appointed Queen\u2019s Counsel \u2013 now King\u2019s Counsel \u2013 in 2018.\r\n\r\nMr Khan has worked on some of the country\u2019s most high-profile cases. Most notably he represented the family of Stephen Lawrence during the private prosecution, inquest and public inquiry into Stephen\u2019s murder, as well as the core participants in the Grenfell Tower Inquiry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He has said: \u201cAs I have learnt through the cases that I have been involved in \u2013 the murder of Stephen Lawrence which led to a public inquiry and changes in policing and race relations; the murder of Zahid Mubarek, which led to a public inquiry and changes to the prison system; the murder of Victoria Climbie which led to a public inquiry and changes in the treatment of children \u2013 when institutions do not treat people fairly, it reveals, and is indicative of, systemic problems which are not limited to the individual case.\u201d\r\n\r\nMr Khan is chair of the British Institute of Human Rights and patron of the University of East London Law Clinic. He is also visiting professor of law at London South Bank University.\r\n\r\nThe Jenny Vaughan Memorial Conference<\/a> takes place at the Wellcome Collective in London from 9am to 5pm on Saturday 17 May.\r\n\r\nArrival and registration is from 8am, with the introduction starting at 9am and Mr Khan due to speak at 9.20am.\r\n\r\nThe conference is free and tickets are available now from Eventbrite<\/a>.\r\n\r\nContributions to the conference can be made via our crowd funder<\/a>.
