One of the founders of Threads of Survival has invited people to create a quilt or tapestry, inspired by DAUK\u2019s former chair Dr Jenny Vaughan.\r\n\r\nThe Threads of Survival project began with a focus on life during the pandemic.\r\n\r\nIt continues a proud tradition documenting important historical events and protests in quilts and textiles.\r\n\r\nVolunteers from 999 Call for the NHS \u2013 campaigners passionate about ensuring healthcare is available to all \u2013 started the project during the 2020 lockdown.\r\n\r\nQuilting became a creative way of engaging with the public about the fear of illness, difficulties in daily life, and threats to the NHS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Christine Hyde, one of the founders of Threads of Survival, said: \u201cMore than 160 people across the country \u2013 from children to 80 year olds, from professional textile artists to those who had never sewn before \u2013 became involved in the making of a national quilt, and numerous local quilts.\r\n\r\n\u201cWe are grateful to them all.\u201d\r\n\r\nDAUK invited Christine, and Cathy Dunbar and Gaynor Lloyd from the project, to exhibit at our recent conference.\r\n\r\nThey used the platform to encourage people to create a quilt or quilts, inspired by and in memory of Dr Vaughan.\r\n\r\nDr Ellen Welch, DAUK vice chair and lead for the conference, said: \u201cThreads of Survival was such a powerful project during the pandemic and continues to provide social and political commentary.\r\n\r\n\u201cIt really resonated with DAUK and we were delighted to be able to welcome them to our conference.\r\n\r\n\u201cWe were touched by their invite for people to create something inspired by Jenny and the things she stood for.\u201d\r\n\r\nAnyone interested in making a patch should email Threads of Survival<\/a>.\r\n\r\nFind out more about Threads of Survival<\/a>.\r\n\r\nDAUK is run by frontline doctors for frontline.
