DAUK\u2019s GP committee is concerned the Government\u2019s pledge to \u2018bring back the family doctor\u2019 is little more than political posturing.\r\n\r\nDr Steve Taylor, DAUK\u2019s GP co-lead, spoke of his fears during an appearance on national television news.\r\n\r\nTalk TV viewers were told that two GP surgeries were closing every week because of mounting financial pressures.\r\n\r\nViewers were also told that GP partnerships were also being threatened with more National Insurance costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr Taylor said the problems were largely due to funding failing to keep pace with inflation over the past decade.\r\n\r\nHe took to the social media platform X after the interview<\/a>, and said: \u201cBringing back the Family Doctor\u2019 – just a political slogan Wes Streeting<\/a>.\r\n\r\n\u201cTwo GP practices closing every week. GP partnerships threatened with more NI costs.\r\n\r\n\u201cFailure to increase funding over 10 years means \u00a3168\/patient\/year funds all services, \u00a335 less than if it kept with inflation.\u201d\r\n\r\nDr Taylor drew a stark comparison to the cost rail travel. He noted that his recent purchase of an off-peak return to London cost \u00a317 more than the annual funding allocated per year for a patient\u2019s GP access.\r\n\r\nPosting on X, formerly Twitter<\/a>, he said: \u201cJust booked a return to London (off peak) \u00a3186!<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201c\u00a317 more than the amount my GP practice gets for a whole year of access, prescriptions, referrals, letters etc.\r\n\r\n\u201cTwo thoughts: Trains are too expensive.
