{"id":1452,"date":"2025-11-04T15:47:05","date_gmt":"2025-11-04T15:47:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/government-gp-partner-pay-claims-misleading\/"},"modified":"2025-11-04T15:47:05","modified_gmt":"2025-11-04T15:47:05","slug":"government-gp-partner-pay-claims-misleading","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/government-gp-partner-pay-claims-misleading\/","title":{"rendered":"Government GP partner pay claims &#8216;misleading"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Government claims that \u2018one in three GP partners earn more than the prime minister\u2019 are misleading, says DAUK\u2019s GP co-lead.\r\n\r\nDr Steve Taylor responded to comments by primary care minister Stephen Kinnock dismissing warnings from GPs over the impact to online access.\r\n\r\n<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SKinnock\/status\/1984927057416208760\">Posting on X<\/a>, Mr Kinnock said: \u201c1 in 3 GP partners now earn more than the PM, so the BMA&#8217;s claim they lack resources for online bookings simply isn&#8217;t credible.\u201d\r\n\r\nDr Taylor responded to the minister\u2019s comments in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pulsetoday.co.uk\/news\/practice-personal-finance\/bma-dispute-not-credible-as-one-third-of-gps-earn-more-than-prime-minister-says-dhsc\/?gplogin=true\">Pulse<\/a>, in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gponline.com\/government-attacks-gps-pay-dispute-deepens\/article\/1938188\">GP Online<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DrSteveTaylor\">on his social media<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">GP partners<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said: \u201cThere are approximately 700,000 people in the UK earning more than the Prime Minister and some GPs do earn more than the PM.\r\n\r\n\u201cAlthough the figure quoted of one in three is based on tax returns, so it misses the fact that this includes NHS and other sources of income. It also only focuses on GP Partners, with more GPs now being salaried.\r\n\r\n\u201cWhy the Government feels this is relevant at this time is beyond understanding, except as a way to ramp up an argument about funding GP practices.\r\n\r\n\u201cGPs have invested more and more in providing care for patients with the majority seeing cuts in real terms income of 10% to 20% over the past ten years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Patient care<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFunding requests are aimed at providing better care for patients, with employing and retaining GPs a priority.\u201d\r\n\r\nDAUK committee members are all volunteers and campaign about issues facing doctors in their own time.
