Failure to listen to GPs on delivering community care will result in worse outcomes for patients, DAUK has warned.\r\n\r\nThe Doctors\u2019 Association UK GP committee said family doctors were \u2018deeply concerned\u2019 about the Government\u2019s current approach to general practice.\r\n\r\nDr Steve Taylor, DAUK GP co-lead, said that if the Government continues to overlook the realities facing general practice, it will result in poorer patient care and outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was speaking after the England LMC Conference, which was held in Manchester on Friday. Dr Taylor attended on behalf of DAUK with our co-chair Dr Ellen Welch.\r\n\r\nDr Taylor said: \u201cIt is clear from the England LMC Conference that GPs are extremely unhappy with the current position of the Government towards general practice.\r\n\r\n\u201cThe imposition of contracts, a failure to fund practices adequately to provide safe, timely care for patients, and continued briefings in the media against GPs have resulted in clear mandates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Government must listen to general practice in delivering care in the community. Failure to do so will result in worse care for patients.\r\n\r\n\u201cAll motions were about patient care and the needs of patients for access to GPs.\r\n\r\n\u201cMore funding means more GPs, appointments, future capacity, and better outcomes in terms of prevention and costs to the public being less.\r\n\r\n\u201cThe Government needs to invest to save.\u201d\r\n\r\nDAUK committee members are all volunteers and campaign about issues facing doctors in their own time.
