{"id":2328,"date":"2026-03-13T14:23:16","date_gmt":"2026-03-13T14:23:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/?p=2328"},"modified":"2026-03-13T14:23:18","modified_gmt":"2026-03-13T14:23:18","slug":"gmc-perceptions-survey-should-be-a-wake-up-call","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/gmc-perceptions-survey-should-be-a-wake-up-call\/","title":{"rendered":"GMC perceptions survey should be \u2018a wake-up call\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A General Medical Council survey which found more than half of doctors (54 per cent) are not confident in their regulator should serve as \u2018a wake-up call\u2019 for the GMC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The GMC\u2019s interim perceptions survey also found that more than three-quarters (77 per cent) of doctors were not confident in how the GMC regulates physician assistants and physician assistants in anaesthesia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr Steve Taylor, Doctors Association UK (DAUK) GP co-lead, said he was not surprised by the survey results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">GMC<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said: \u201cThe GMC was set up by doctors for doctors to provide a safety check and regulation of safe patient care.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cGiven the well publicised disregard of doctors views on PAs and AAs, and ongoing concerns about the way the GMC investigates doctors, it is not at all surprising that confidence in the GMC has been falling.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDoctors have been an afterthought despite the fact that they are the ones paying for the GMC\u2019s existence and are the vast majority of registrants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wake-up call<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe current board is failing and has failed to listen to the voices of the majority of doctors, and this survey confirms this.
