{"id":3109,"date":"2026-05-13T14:03:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T13:03:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/?p=3109"},"modified":"2026-05-13T14:03:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T13:03:11","slug":"kings-speech-dauk-response","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/kings-speech-dauk-response\/","title":{"rendered":"King&#8217;s Speech: DAUK response"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Doctors\u2019 Association UK (DAUK) has responded to the King\u2019s Speech and the announcement of NHS Modernisation Bill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department of Health said the bill \u2018sets out significant reforms to improve care for patients through investment and modernisation\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Responding to the announcement of the bill, Dr Steve Taylor, DAUK\u2019s GP co-lead, said: \u201cInvestment in patient care and improvements in the NHS are always welcome.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe changes implemented by the Government on the NHS have the potential to make things better, however, the reality is the top down approach is leading to increasing dissatisfaction from staff, no improvement in patient care and the risk of further problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Safeguards<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cA single patient record without the necessary safeguards in sharing of data with patients will create significant problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe continued <a href=\"https:\/\/dauk.org\/dauk-renews-warning-over-palantirs-role-in-the-nhs\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/dauk.org\/dauk-renews-warning-over-palantirs-role-in-the-nhs\/\">involvement of Palantir is hugely problematic<\/a> and, in our view, extremely unsafe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe loss of NHSE is creating more organisational change at just the time it\u2019s needed to drive change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSo instead there is uncertainty with people changing roles, losing jobs, or concerned staff worried about their own futures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Local communities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cICBs in theory mean more local provision of care but the failure to engage with, or listen to local communities and stakeholders, like GPs, means in many areas it will fail to deliver genuine local community care.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs ever the devil is in the detail, but so far the details don\u2019t provide any evidence of genuine benefit for patients.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are a non-profit campaigning and lobbying organisation led by frontline doctors, for frontline doctors.
