{"id":3339,"date":"2026-06-10T13:27:01","date_gmt":"2026-06-10T12:27:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/?p=3339"},"modified":"2026-06-10T13:27:03","modified_gmt":"2026-06-10T12:27:03","slug":"concern-over-supermarket-pharmacy-insect-bite-promotion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/concern-over-supermarket-pharmacy-insect-bite-promotion\/","title":{"rendered":"Concern over supermarket pharmacy insect bite promotion"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Doctors Association UK (DAUK ) has raised concerns over a new supermarket promotion that offers customers rewards for seeking advice from its pharmacies about insect bites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pharmacy Magazine reported that Asda was offering its reward card customers a \u00a32 \u2018bonus\u2019 if they present at one of its pharmacies after being bitten by an insect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr Steve Taylor, DAUK\u2019s GP co-lead, said the scheme appeared to act as an \u2018inducement to patients to get them to access Asda pharmacies and use the Pharmacy First infected insect bite pathway\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An ASDA spokesperson said: &#8220;Customers are already being bitten and are shopping within our stores.&#8221; They added the funding came &#8216;solely from ASDA&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Read the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pharmacymagazine.co.uk\/business-news\/asda-pharmacies-offer-2-bonus-to-customers-who-seek-insect-bite-advice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pharmacy Magazine report<\/a> in full.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are a non-profit campaigning and lobbying organisation led by frontline doctors, for frontline doctors.
