{"id":3638,"date":"2026-07-27T18:31:25","date_gmt":"2026-07-27T17:31:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/?p=3638"},"modified":"2026-07-27T18:31:26","modified_gmt":"2026-07-27T17:31:26","slug":"dauk-in-the-media-concern-over-private-equity-ownership-of-gp-records-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/dauk-in-the-media-concern-over-private-equity-ownership-of-gp-records-system\/","title":{"rendered":"DAUK in the media: concern over private equity ownership of GP records system"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Doctors\u2019 Association UK (DAUK) has raised concerns over the \u00a3300m sale of NHS patient records to a US private equity firm in a national newspaper report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking to the Guardian, DAUK called for greater transparency and safeguards after TPG bought Optum UK, the firm behind the electronic patient record system used by most GP practices in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk-news\/england\">England<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DAUK said: \u201cPrivate equity now owns the plumbing of English general practice. The GP records of more than half the country sit on a system controlled by a firm whose business model is returns for investors, not care for patients, and the public found out after the fact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe want the government to set out what safeguards exist, what happens to the data if TPG later sells the asset, and why none of this was put to parliament.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/society\/2026\/jul\/27\/nhs-patients-records-us-private-equity-firm-optum-uk-tpg\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/society\/2026\/jul\/27\/nhs-patients-records-us-private-equity-firm-optum-uk-tpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Read the Guardian article in full<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DAUK committee members are all volunteers and campaign on issues facing frontline doctors in their own time.
