{"id":433,"date":"2020-07-08T11:24:00","date_gmt":"2020-07-08T10:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/freeparkingfornhsstaff\/"},"modified":"2020-07-08T11:24:00","modified_gmt":"2020-07-08T10:24:00","slug":"freeparkingfornhsstaff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/freeparkingfornhsstaff\/","title":{"rendered":"DAUK in the Evening Standard: NHS staff advocacy groups call for government u-turn on scrapping free hospital parking"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DAUK and <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/nhs\"><strong>NHS<\/strong><\/a><strong> staff advocacy groups are calling on the Government to reverse its decision to scrap universal free hospital <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/parking\"><strong>parking<\/strong><\/a><strong> for health service staff after the <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/topic\/covid-19\"><strong>Covid-19<\/strong><\/a><strong> pandemic.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department of Health has said that the scheme to fund fees incurred by NHS staff in privately run hospital car parks \u2014 first introduced as the UK lockdown began on March 25 \u2014 cannot \u201ccontinue indefinitely\u201d, and that workers will have to begin to pay for parking again in all but \u201ccertain circumstances\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No certain timeline for the changes has been given.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The move has prompted an angry backlash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr Dolin Bhagawati ,from grassroots medic campaign group Doctors\u2019 Association UK (DAUK), told the Standard: \u201cThe Doctors\u2019 Association UK are appalled by the decision to charge NHS staff for parking at their place of work.
