{"id":690,"date":"2021-01-19T14:54:17","date_gmt":"2021-01-19T14:54:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/dauks-dr-samantha-batt-rawden-in-birmingham-live-nhs-doctors-harrowing-account-from-the-coronavirus-frontline-as-hospitals-run-out-of-oxygen\/"},"modified":"2021-01-19T14:54:17","modified_gmt":"2021-01-19T14:54:17","slug":"dauks-dr-samantha-batt-rawden-in-birmingham-live-nhs-doctors-harrowing-account-from-the-coronavirus-frontline-as-hospitals-run-out-of-oxygen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/dauks-dr-samantha-batt-rawden-in-birmingham-live-nhs-doctors-harrowing-account-from-the-coronavirus-frontline-as-hospitals-run-out-of-oxygen\/","title":{"rendered":"DAUK&#8217;s Dr Samantha Batt-Rawden in Birmingham Live: NHS doctor&#8217;s harrowing account from the coronavirus frontline &#8211; as hospitals &#8216;run out of oxygen&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dauk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/image_from_ios-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4397\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An NHS hero working on the frontline amid the Covid-19 pandemic has been trolled for speaking out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a class=\"rank-math-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/bbc\">Dr Samantha Batt-Rawden<\/a>&nbsp;has been trolled for speaking out after sharing a harrowing account from the frontline.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr Batt-Rawden described how hospitals are &#8220;at breaking point&#8221; and &#8220;incredibly thin on the ground&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trusts are &#8220;so desperate they are tweeting out for medical students to help in ICU&#8221;, she said. &#8220;NHS staff have not been prioritised for the vaccine and are going off sick in droves with the new strain,&#8221; she continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This comes as a Government scientist has warned that the UK needs to enter&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/birmingham-lockdown\">another lockdown<\/a>&nbsp;to prevent a &#8220;catastrophe&#8221; in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;They are trying to speak up about how bad things are on the frontline but are being shot down on Twitter,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She warned: &#8220;When staff have spoken up on Twitter they have been told this is all a hoax. It\u2019s not. Try holding an iPad for a patient to say goodbye to their family. Or having to a ventilate a colleague. This is real &amp; happening right now. Staff are broken and need support now more than ever.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She added: &#8220;Hospitals are running out of oxygen. One trust has no non-invasive machines left. ICUs are tweeting for volunteers to prone patients. Transfer teams being requested to move patients 65+ miles to nearest hospital with critical care capacity. Please.
