{"id":834,"date":"2021-05-17T14:51:18","date_gmt":"2021-05-17T13:51:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/dauk-in-the-times-gps-challenge-nhs-bosses-on-face-to-face-appointments\/"},"modified":"2021-05-17T14:51:18","modified_gmt":"2021-05-17T13:51:18","slug":"dauk-in-the-times-gps-challenge-nhs-bosses-on-face-to-face-appointments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/dauk-in-the-times-gps-challenge-nhs-bosses-on-face-to-face-appointments\/","title":{"rendered":"DAUK in The Times: GPs challenge NHS bosses on face-to-face appointments"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GPs have said that patients wanting face-to-face appointments must expect to wait as they push back against a directive from NHS England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A letter sent to doctors on Thursday stressed that they should ensure that they were seeing patients in person and should \u201crespect preferences for face-to-face care unless there are good clinical reasons to the contrary\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The British Medical Association (BMA) called on NHS bosses to \u201cclarify\u201d how they should meet demand, while the Doctors\u2019 Association UK said that surgeries did not have the resources \u201cto offer everyone who would like it a face-to-face appointment\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All practice receptions should be open to patients, while adhering to social distancing and infection control measures, the NHS letter added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GPs were told last year at the height\u00a0of the first wave to triage patients\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/article\/web-appointments-add-to-gp-burden-matt-hancock-told-2fh8zj2d0\">on the telephone or online<\/a>\u00a0before offering appointments in person.
