{"id":930,"date":"2022-01-03T01:05:12","date_gmt":"2022-01-03T01:05:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/nhs-does-not-have-enough-staff-to-man-covid-surge-facilities-dauk-in-the-independent\/"},"modified":"2022-01-03T01:05:12","modified_gmt":"2022-01-03T01:05:12","slug":"nhs-does-not-have-enough-staff-to-man-covid-surge-facilities-dauk-in-the-independent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dauk.org\/nhs-does-not-have-enough-staff-to-man-covid-surge-facilities-dauk-in-the-independent\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;NHS does not have enough staff to man Covid surge facilities&#8221; DAUK in the Independent"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dauk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/pictureppe.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2865\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/nhs\">NHS<\/a>&nbsp;does not have enough medics to staff beds in \u201csurge hubs\u201d for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/covid\">Covid<\/a>&nbsp;patients being set up at hospitals around England, a representative of health service managers has warned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The chief executive of NHS Providers,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/chris-hopson\">Chris Hopson<\/a>, said that an \u201cemergency staffing model\u201d will be needed, with recently retired doctors and nurses and experienced volunteers called in if the additional capacity is needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And a member of the committee of the Doctors Association UK, neurologist Dr David Nicholl of University Hospital Birmingham, warned that many clinicians within the NHS are \u201creally, really anxious\u201d about the rising pressure on staffing within the service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe biggest threat is staffing at every level,\u201d Dr Nicholl told BBC Radio 4\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Today<\/em>&nbsp;programme. \u201cSpeaking to my colleagues in critical care, they tell me they have less staff than they had 12 months ago.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThat, frankly, is because people are burned out from last winter.
