Inflation\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/inews.co.uk\/news\/cost-of-living-uk-inflation-rises-to-5-4-the-highest-figure-in-nearly-30-years-1409909?ico=in-line_link\">rose to 5.4 per cent last month<\/a>, the highest for nearly 30 years, and as the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/inews.co.uk\/news\/cost-of-living-crisis-only-just-begun-real-terms-pay-cut-soaring-prices-1409119?ico=in-line_link\">cost of living crisis<\/a>\u00a0has deepened\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/inews.co.uk\/news\/cost-of-living-crisis-nhs-worker-60-hour-week-credit-card-food-shopping-inflation-1419013?ico=in-line_link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">frontline workers have demanded a boost to pay<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr Yaso Browne, a Hampshire-based GP speaking on behalf of the Doctors\u2019 Association UK (DAUK), told&nbsp;<strong>i<\/strong>: \u201cPeople were encouraged to \u2018protect the NHS\u2019, but the people of the NHS need protecting from unfair freezes on their pay.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFor years NHS staff have been offered wage increases below or barely meeting the cost of living, in real terms. They have gone and are still going above and beyond to keep the NHS running.
